About Us
Florida Partnership in Education (FL PIE): The Partnership
The Partnership is a collaborative
dedicated to parental involvement in education. Originally established
in 1999 in the College of Education at the University of South Florida
(USF), The Partnership has evolved organizationally over time but has remained true to its major goal
of building and enhancing the links between parental involvement and
increased student academic achievement for Florida’s students.
The organizational evolution of The Partnership has included a change from its original name—The Florida Partnership for Family Involvement in Education—to its new full name: Florida Partnership in Education, still known by many as “The Partnership” or now simply as FL PIE.
The Partnership/FL PIE has:
- served as a leader in parental involvement in
education, providing both parents and educators throughout Florida with
training, resources, and information to connect and strengthen parental
involvement and increase student academic achievement.
- focused particularly on supporting educators
and families of children who may be educationally disadvantaged due to
economic, linguistic, and/or learning challenges.
- worked to improve parental involvement
collaboratively with parents, schools, school districts, regional
technical assistance centers, the Florida Department of Education,
community - and faith-based groups, and institutions of higher
education.
Currently the major focus of The Partnership/FL PIE is a five-year federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education, which funds the statewide Florida Parental Information and Resource Center at the University of South Florida (Florida PIRC at USF ).
The David C. Anchin Center in the USF College of Education is the departmental home of The Partnership/FL PIE. The diagram below shows the nesting of the organizational units supporting and stemming from The Partnership/FL PIE.
